Gum Disease

It is estimated that over 85% of the population has some degree of gum disease. In fact, more people lose teeth today from periodontal disease than from cavities.

Gum disease is an infection of the gums and jawbones that is caused by the colonization of bacteria underneath the tartar on your teeth. This bacteria can also enter the blood stream and cause serious problems in distant parts of your body. Research now shows that gum disease can be linked to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, premature births and low birth weight.

There are often no noticeable symptoms of gum disease for a long time. A dentist or hygienist must do a thorough and complete examination to detect gum disease, especially in its early stages.

We use the following innovative services and technologies to treat gum disease:

  • Soft tissue therapy - our hygienist is certified in the science of laser therapy
  • State-of-the-art charting - our computer system lets us keep a profile of your periodontal status so we can closely monitor the health of your gums and create a customized treatment plan
  • Cleaning - once we have cleaned your gums, we use an air polishing system (like a mini power-washer!) to remove stains from your teeth
  • Diode Laser Treatment - The diode laser is used to manage and control periodontal disease, by decontamination of infected gums(pockets) and stimulation of repair and new tissue formation.

Think of your gums as the foundation and your teeth as the building. Without a healthy and sturdy foundation, we can’t repair or give your “building” a makeover!
